I joined the Poverty Truth Community just before the very last Commission, we were still called to the Poverty Truth Commission then. During the Commission I was introduced to women from the asylum system and as they told me their stories I was really shocked by the level of poverty that they were in.

I was also ashamed that as a nation we treated asylum seekers so badly. So I joined the asylum working group and have not really stopped working in that issue since.

The experience connected me to the Poverty Truth Community and is a big reason why I remain a part, working with others to highlight injustice and to seek change, while reminding new Scots that they're really welcome here.
