The item I have chosen is a loose button.
If I find a loose button in the house I'll keep it just in case. If your top loses a button it then looks broken and is noticeable to others who may then judge you as unable to afford decent clothes and be lesser than them.
I was always struck by the impact of choice of shoes worn to school in the short film created by a young Courtney talking of the discrimination rife in schools over what you wear. Being accepted or rejected depending on the trend. A fortune to parents, but life-changing to people's in the midst of it.
